Tinker Tours - May

You are invited

Bradfield Development Authority and First Building Creative Producer, Powerhouse Youth Theatre (PYT), invite you to attend STEAMpop.

STEAMpop’s Hungry Birds workshop provides a playful experience where participants engage with paper engineering to construct a mathematical model representing a hyperbolic paraboloid.

We’ll explore the concept of biomimicry in folded mechanisms by experimenting with articulated movement of the 3D forms like the opening and closing of a beak.

Hungry Birds will place humour at the front and centre of embodied STEAM learning.

Questions

The Tinker Tours are a series of interactive workshops led by multi-disciplinary creatives that make complex STEM ideas approachable and exciting through creative practice.

The program is a core part of Bradfield’s early activation strategy delivered by creative producers PYT Fairfield, embedding arts and culture into the city’s foundations and connecting Western Sydney’s creative industries with manufacturing and innovation.

The first two Tinker Tours in 2025 were attended by students from Luddenham Primary Schol and Kemps Creek Primary School, designed to encourage curiosity about the future of manufacturing.

Led by Western Sydney artist Anney Bounpraseuth, students were invited to use recycled craft materials to design their dream factories of the future. This workshop promoted creativity, storytelling, and design thinking.

STEAMpop values the intersection between the Arts and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths: STEAM.

Dr Melissa Silk and Annette Mauer’s workshops are all about curiosity, the spark emerging from learning by making and the experience of creating something beautiful.

STEAMpop is based in Sydney and delivers projects worldwide. Feedback related to STEAMpop’s making experiences includes 'very creative and awe inspiring', 'loaded with learning' and 'lots of laughing'.

There are 2 Tinker Tours in the current series - Wednesday 29 April and Wednesday 13 May 2026.

The Tinker Tours are being held in Bradfield City's First Building, located in Bradfield City, 215 Badgerys Creek Rd.

Public transport options are currently limited, so we recommend driving to the event. Onsite parking will be available.

Our Tinker Tours are free to attend, however you must register to attend.

Refreshments will not be provided during the activity. Water will be available.
